Sea Change launched a fundraising campaign with AlterNet – asking readers to help us send boxes of coal to right-wing media machine mouthpieces, O’Reilly, Savage, Limbaugh, Bennet and Dobbs.

Here’s AlterNet’s letter that will accompany the lumps of coal.
*******************************************************

Congratulations – you made AlterNet’s 2007 list of the top 5 most egregious statements uttered in corporate media this year.

As a reward, just in time for the holidays, AlterNet readers are sending you a box of coal to show you how harmful your statements have been.

And in case you forgot, here’s what you and your fellow recipients said to get on our list.

Bill O’Reilly, you absurdly attacked progressive blogs saying that Daily Kos and other progressive websites are as hateful as the Nazis and the KKK.

Michael Savage, you said on your radio show, “When I see a woman walking around in a burqa, I see a Nazi … a hateful Nazi who would like to cut your throat and kill your children. She’s doing it to spit in your face. She’s saying, ‘You white moron, you. I’m going to kill you if I can.'”

Rush Limbaugh you launched a tirade against immigrants, arguing that “You don’t have the right to protest when you come here. You’re allowed no demonstrations, you cannot wave a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his policies, or you get sent home. You’re a foreigner. You shut your mouth or you get out, and if you come here illegally, you go straight to jail and we’re going to hunt you down ’til we find you.”

Bill Bennett you said “if you wanted to reduce crime, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.”

Lou Dobbs you drastically inflated the number of new leprosy cases in America from 398 to 7,000 in order to sabotage immigration reform.

All of you have seized opportunities to manipulate, enflame, and lie about the most important issues and decisions facing our country. And AlterNet is determined to keep challenging you by bringing Americans the most quality independent journalism and opinion around.

So here’s a box of coal from us and our readers.

Sincerely,

AlterNet
