myspace rules
With growing detractors and many other social networking sites claiming to be the “next myspace,” it now seems that toppling the throne is gonna be quite a challenge: Myspace is now the number one site on the web.
According to Media Post’s report on a Hitwise study:
MYSPACE LAST WEEK BECAME THE most popular site on the Web in the United States, commanding 4.46 percent of all visits, according to new research by Hitwise. That’s a greater market share than Yahoo’s email service (4.42 percent), Yahoo’s home page (4.25 percent), and Google (3.89 percent). Within the social networking sphere, MySpace’s dominance is uncontested with fully 79.9 percent of the total number of visits. The next biggest network is Facebook (7.5 percent share), followed by Xanga (3.8 percent).
Media Post goes on to cite some naysayers that show that “engagement rates” might be higher on sites like Del.icio.us (which i personally could not live without) and Flickr. But as marketers, it’s our job to go where the people are, and the people are at MySpace for the moment, big time.
