With the possible exception of organizations working on reproductive rights and other critically endangered rights (gay marriage comes to mind), fundraising strategists may have cause to plan more conservatively this year.

A recent poll reported in the Chronicle of Philanthropy found that 63% of donors say they are going to be more cautious in their giving in light of the economy. It’s definitely not news we want to hear but before you panic, 59% of donors last year said the same thing. Best to keep any irrational exuberance in check for the time being.
